Death of Mrs. T. J. Snyde

Mrs. Thomas J. Snyde died suddenly at her home in the south part of town Saturday forenoon when it was believed her condition was improving satisfactorily. She had been quite ill since early in January but during the few days preceding her death showed signs of improvement that were encouraging. Seized with an attack of hiccoughs she was raised to a sitting position in bed and suddenly toppled over and expired within a few minutes. A weakened heart following an attack of flu is thought to have caused her death. Alwida Snyde, nee Fox was born April 15, 1858, at Put-in Bay, Ohio, where she spent the early years of her life. She was united in marriage with Thomas J. Snyde at Sandusky, Ohio, on October 16, 1882, and a few years later the young couple came direct to Nebraska, locating on a farm near Papillion where they resided until thirteen years ago when they moved to Papillion where they had since made their home. To this union there were born nine children, six of whom survive, namely: Mrs. Lola Secord of Omaha, Mrs. Myrtle Goettsche of Lodgepole, Nebraska, Mrs. Ruby Crawford of Millard, and Miss Leona Snyde and Mrs. Edith Uhe of Papillion, and Harvey A. Snyde of Waterloo. She is also survived by her husband, and by two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Tinnean of near Springfield, and Mrs. Robert E. Taylor of Lockland, Ohio, and by six grandchildren. Two children Geneva and Clifford, died in infancy and Harry died at the age of eleven. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Methodist church, Rev. J. H. Hall, the pastor, officiating. Special music was rendered by the mixed quartette, and several selections were sung by Rev. and Mrs. John H. Hall by special request. Many beautiful floral offerings almost buried the casket, attesting the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Burial was in Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Snyde was of a very quiet disposition but those who knew her best found in her a sincere friend. She was a devoted and sacrificing wife and mother and a good neighbor.
