She came to the United States of America in 1900, to Sterling, Nebr. Here she was married to Ed Foss on Sept. 26, 1900.
Six children were born to this union, three of whom preceded their mother in death: Lillian and Clarence, in infancy, and Charles in 1956. Mr. Foss died Dec. 31, 1943.
After the death of her husband Mrs. Foss lived alone in her home in Sterling. She was remarkably active and alert and greatly enjoyed life and the pleasant associations with relatives and friends.
In 1900 she joined St. John's Lutheran church and was a member here until her death. She was a charter member of the Ladies Aid. She was faithful in attendance at church and took an active part in the work of the Aid.
Grandchildren as well as children greatly loved Mrs. Foss and she was included in family activities nearby and also at a distance. A recent trip to Colorado with her grandson Eugene Bargman of Beatrice was a source of much pleasure for her.
Surviving Mrs. Foss are two daughters and one son; Maude (Mrs. August Bargman), Denver, Colo., Viola (Mrs. R. W. Thiesfeld), Sterling, and Landis Foss, Filley. There are also nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Only a few hours before the church bells rang out the old year last Friday night Edward C. Foss for 61 years a resident of this community was called to his reward. "Ed Foss," as he was generally known, was born on a farm near Adams on April 14, 1874. On January 22 of that year he was received into God's covenant of grace by the sacrament of holy baptism. As a boy he attended the public schools of those years. Which were far from being what they are today.
On September 26, 1900 he was married to Anna Matthies of Sterling. The wedding was in St. John Lutheran church, with Rev. H. Wendt officiating. To their union six children were born two of whom, a boy and a girl, died in early youth.
After living in the Sterling community for eight years in 1908 the young couple moved to a farm near Scottsbluff. In 1916 they returned again and lived on a farm south of Sterling until failing health caused him to retire in 1928. Since then they lived here in town.
His end came quietly and peacefully on New Years eve. His age 69 years, 8 months and 17 days. He is survived by his faithful wife and the following children; Charles of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Maud Bargman of Denver, Colorado, Mrs Viola Thiesfeld, Sterling, Landis, Crab Orchard. There are nine grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters also survive: John, Greenfield, Mo., Mrs, Anna Mack, Haxtun, Colorado, Mrs. Etta Agena, Sterling, Theodore, Corvallis, Oregan and one aunt Mrs. Caroline Eilers.
Funeral services were held at St. John Lutheran church on Tuesday afternoon. In the absence of the pastor Rev. C. Schulte of Adams was the officiating clergyman. Interment was at the Sterling cemetery.
