Nelson B. Francis was born at Manchester, Ohio, June 21, 1858, where he grew up and was married to Mary Catherine Kress, September 23rd, 1880. They had one son, Ira E. Mary Francis passed away April 13, 1904. Nelson Francis came to Sterling Nebr. in 1886 and has since then resided on the farm north of town, which place was developed into one of the best farms in this community. His motto was: "Never do things by halves," and this he proved in his daily life, placing his supreme interest in the home and the farm. His many friends are a living testimony of his stalwartness and effort to be a good friend and neighbor.
