The following information comes from an undated document at the Dawes County Historical Society. Note the discrepancy in birth and death dates for James O. Gorr between the document and the gravestone.
James O. Gorr 1868 - 1937
“Rancher and farmer 4 miles west of Chadron from 1909 until his death in 1937.
Deputy Sheriff of Dawes County in early years – probably about 1911-1914 under Sheriff Win Birdsell. Dawes County Commissioner about 1920 to 1924.
Married Jane Isabel Greenwood in Red Cloud, Nebraska on July 16, 1909. Three Children: James Greenwood Gorr, 1911 (died shortly after birth); Joseph Wendell Gorr, 1913 – 1972; Emma Christine Gorr Hiatt 1917 – who lives at Eugene, Oregon.
