Ane PETERSEN

Blair Cemetery
Washington County,
Nebraska

The Petersen's emigrated from Denmark in 1860. Once arriving in the United States, they joined as members of a Mormon colonization group and began a trek westward with the intentions of settling in Utah.

Traveling by covered wagon, the group arrived in Saint Joseph, Missouri in the fall of 1860. From there the group traveled to Omaha where the Petersen's, and some of the others within the group, abandoned the expedition due to theological differences and remained in Nebraska.

The Petersen's joined the Josephites, a reorganized branch of the Mormon Church. Jens was the first Josephite missionary to preach in Desoto, which was a thriving community at one time, but which is now largely abandoned.
