Previously, only known as "GRANDMA", which is what is engraved on her headstone. b. 1817 Denmark. / d. 1896 Kearney County, Nebraska, USA. She is buried near her son Nels in Block E, Lot 7. Her two sons' surnames were formed from the old Danish 'Patronymic method' derived from their father's FIRST name Soren Nielsen, which resulted in them being: son of Soren (Soren's son)= SORENSEN. They are Niels Christian "Nels C." Sorensen and Mikkel Bok Sorensen who arranged and paid to have their mother Christena Nielsen (also spelled Kristine Nielsen) join them in America; she arrived 1878. Her estranged husband Soren Nielsen stayed in Denmark.
