In the discussion of Ross Taylor O'Banion's grave, it states that his father was Jesse O'Banion and his mother was Vandalia (?). His mother was Vandalia Lee, daughter of Leander Lee and Samarius (?). She was born in Louisa County Ia and is listed in the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Census at Morning Sun Louisa Co. Vandalia's grandfather was Furman Lee married Elizabeth Keller born in Ohio. Co. W.Va. dau of John Keller and Elizabeth (?) . Both Samarius and Furman died and are buried in Hazel Grove Cem. Des Moines Co. Ia. Leander next married Alice Jane Hanawalt dau. of John Hanawalt and Rebecca Johns. They along with Leander's mother moved west to Harrison Co. Iowa. where Vandalia is in the 1880 Census for Allen twp, Harrison Co. Ia. listed with Leander and "Allis". The marriage records for Harrison county shows that she and Jesse O'Banion were married 7 July, 1881. As noted, Vandalia's father was Leander Lee born in Indiana, Leander's father was Furman Lee born Turtle Creek twp Warren Co. Ohio, Furman's father was John Isaac Lee born Frederick Co Va. at Garretsburg. He was married to Isabel Hayes, dau. of William Hayes and Nancy Ann Hoge. John Isaac Lee's father is said to be Captain William Fairfax Lee also of Frederick Co. Virginia married to Cathren ?.
I am Dan Moore now from St. Joseph but grew to adulthood in Jordan Twp Monona Co. Ia. Clara Belle Lee daughter of Leander Lee and his second wife, Alice Jane Hanawalt was my grandmother.
