Thomas Snyde, 93, Died Early Tuesday Evening
Resident of Sarpy county since 1881: services will be held Friday,
Thomas J. Snyde, past 93 years of age, died Tuesday evening at about 6 o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Schrecengost, of infirmities due to his advance years. He had been failing rapidly the past few weeks and sank into a deep sleep several days ago from which he did not awaken. He was perhaps the oldest resident of Sarpy county at the time of his death. Thomas J. Snyde was born April 26, 1854, in Shubanacadie, Nova Scotia, where he grew to young manhood. He spent a few years in Boston and at Put-in Bay, Ohio, where he worked as a fisherman. He came to Sarpy county in 1881 and started farming which occupation he followed until advanced years compelled him to retire. He was a lover of fine horses and his teams were always the center of attraction. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen for over 50 years.
He was united in marriage with Miss Alwilda Fox at Sandusky, Ohio, on October 16, 1882. To this union 9 children were born, six of whom survive. They are Mesdames Leona Schrecengost and Edith Uhe, Papillion; Lola Secord and Myrtly Goettsche, Denver; and Ruby Crawford, Elkhorn and by one son, Harvey A. Snyde of Omaha. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. His wife preceded him several years ago. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 from the Claire Funeral Home to the St. Paul Methodist church at 2 o'clock with Rev. Frank Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. The pall bearers will be Messrs. W. E. D. Schmitt, Earl Lieber, John Ward, Wm Durkop, Ray Lamb and Wm Bolling.
"Uncle Tommy also said that Thomas raised horses and sold them to the Calvary".
