The following passage is from page 25 in Prairie Justice by George Watson.
“Born May 15, 1838, at Alexandria, Virginia, and died on July 23, 1911, in Chadron. His grandfather’s epitaph was written by Francis Scott Key. In 1861, he moved to Kansas where, because of his free-state convictions, he ran a mercantile business which was confiscated. He left with the excitement of gold to Oregon, and he was admitted to the bar in Idaho.
“Sayrs came to Chadron in 1886 and died here on July 23, 1911. He served as Couonty Judge and City Attorney, and was in the law firm of Sayrs & Dorr."
