LaPorte was a town in Wayne County, that was briefly the County Seat in 1871. When the railroad bypassed it, the seat was moved to the town of Wayne. There is nothing left of the town except the old cemetery, and most of the burials there were originally from Paw Paw Illinois. The cemetery is abandoned, but a group of local citizens maintain it.
