Jacob Kaufman was born in New York November 24, 1859 according to his obituary. The 1885 Census shows him as a laborer in Plum Creek (Lexington), Nebraska as he had come west in 1884. A farmer south of Farnam until he moved to town where he lived and by 1930 was a section foreman on the railroad. Jake never married and lived alone all his life except for several years when he was a resident of a home for the aged in Farnam and then in Lexington. He died April 24, 1948 and is buried in the Farnam Cemetery. His grave has been marked with a flat headstone provided by the Farnam Cemetery with memorial money from the Farnam Centennial committee.
