This undated photo in an undated newspaper clipping is displayed in the gazebo in the cemetery. It gives the origin of the name, Indian Mound.

Excavations on the Willaim Dech farm near Ithica provided facts about the history of early Saunders County Indians. Skelatons, as in the picture above, flints, stone axes and other implements were taken from the graves until Mr. Dech planted the hill to orchard to prevent further disturbances of the graves.
In ink: Ponca Indian graves from which Indian Mound Cemetery gets its name. On hill north of cemetery.
