Paul Walter Hagel dob 16 January 1891 in Rushville, Sheridan County, Nebraska. Married Mabel Addy 30 August 1917 at Rushville, Nebraska.
Paul died 21 December 1918 of the flu epidemic during World WarI while serving in France. He was buried in the American Cemetery No. 515, Montigny LeRo, Hautes Marne, France, Grave # 37. His body was returned to Rushville, NE for burial 7 months later. The family had not yet received notice of Paul's death when his brother, Bill, (also serving in France) happened to go into this particular cemetery with some other buddies and saw Paul's grave. What a shock!
Monument inscription reads: Private Paul W. Hagel; Comp D 104 Infantry 26 Div. Born Jan 16, 1891; died in France Dec 21, 1918.
