Memorial left at graveside from [Brad Carper...], Pledge Class of [98]reads:
"Deanna Schultz Remembered - As I am sure you all know, a piece of Beta Tau was taken to heaven on March 6, 2002 when Deanna Schultz passed away due to complications with emphysema. For those of you who never had the pleasure of meeting Deanna, I will try my best to put into words what she meant to Beta Tau and its members.
When I came to the house as a freshman I was amazed to hear all of the upperclassmen talk about Deanna and how important she was to [Delt]. It was hard to believe that in a house with [84] men living in it, one woman could be so important. It didn't take me long to figure out what they were talking about.
Deanna was the cook here at Beta Tau for over 10 years. But to call Deanna just a cook is a giant understatement. Deanna was so much more. She was a caring parent when we needed guidance and a counselor when we needed someone to talk to. But most of all, Deanna was a friend you could count on.
About a year ago when I was President, the position of House Mother was offered to Deanna. Deanna's worsening health was a concern for the Chapter. We felt the move to House Mother would give her a much needed break but still keep her a part of Beta Tau. Deanna accepted the position, but just before the start of fall classes, she decided to remain the House Cook. That's where Deanna felt she belonged. After Deanna passed away, I began to question whether we made the right decision letting Deanna remain as cook. I [?] take comfort in the fact that Deanna died doing what she loved, cooking and taking care of her boys here at Beta Tau."
