1 March 1844 - 4 Dec 1931
Confederate Soldier
35 Missouri was a consolidated unit. Record shows him as a Private in the 9 Missouri Company A. But for a time (1864)he was a 4th Sergeant in Company B. He enlisted 27 July 1862 in Howard County, Missouri for three years. His unit was surrendered by General Kirby Smith 26 May 1865 and James was paroled 7 June 1865 in Alexandra, Louisiana. His rank at the time of his parole shows him as a private. He was likely promoted in the field for need, and reverted when the need passed.
