Enlisted December 12, 1861 at Cosa Bridge, Alabama aged 17. Swam Mobile Bay rather than surrender at Spanish Fort to fight another day. Best friend was ex-slave Frank Graham buried in unmarked grave Greenwood. Served as Deputy Sheriff York County.
