DONAVIN FRANKFORTER, 93, formerly of Lincoln, passed away March 24, 2016 in Omaha.

Don was born September 27th 1922, in Lincoln NE, second son of Archibald and Mary Frankforter. He graduated from Tobias High School where he was a star basketball player. He married his high school sweetheart Eris Berdine Fisher in 1942 before leaving to serve in World War II. He was a veteran of multiple campaigns, doing Reconnaissance, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, and working with the Free French. Over the course of three years he saw action in France, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Luxembourg and Belgium.

After the War he settled in Lincoln and started work at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph. He was a lifelong gardener, and discovered a talent for wood working his 40s, carving scenes of Native American life, nudes, abstracts and nature. He served as President of the Lincoln Artists Guild, and won several ribbons at the Nebraska State Fair.

In his 50s he took up tennis, spending many hours after retirement happily beating players half his age. He was recognized by the Lincoln Tennis Association multiple years for his volunteerism at the Woods courts.
