Mary Saxton arrived from Iowa in 1885 by covered wagon with six children and recently widowed. She and the four surviving children all homesteaded near Sand Creek. She married Andrew Procunier, another Sand Creek homesteader. Her son Alva, eventually acquied most of the omestead and developed the Saxton ranch, just south of Sand Creek, which remained in the family for more than 100 years.
