Nikolaus II GOEDERT

Assumption Cemetery
Adams County,
Nebraska

Nikolaus Goedert II (aka Nicholas Goedert II) - born Jan 12 1840 in Luxembourg, died March 22 1893 in Roseland. The wording on this grave monument is in German, and indicates his death date and age at his death. The writing at the bottom is very worn by weather and difficult to see.

According to the Juniata Herald newspaper (March 29 1893) Nicholas died as the result of injuries suffered when he was thrown from his wagon by his team falling off a bridge.

Nicholas was married to Anna (Adam or Adams) whose name and death date appear on the reverse side of this monument. Both were born in Luxembourg. (Research done by Ben Kirchen shows that Anna was born in Kehlen, Capellen, Luxembourg.)

Nicholas Goedert II and Anna had the following children:
-- Mary (1867-1874 -- died enroute from Iowa to Nebraska)
-- Nicholas (1869-1874 -- died enroute from Iowa to Nebraska)
-- John David (1871-1962)
-- Susan Marie (1874-1937 -- buried in Assumption Cemetery with her husband, John Peter Kirchen)
-- Nicholas J Goedert III (1876-1965)
-- Henry Joseph (1878-1966)
-- John Peter (1880-1954)
-- Mathias J (1886-1954)
